Is it safe to talk about travel again?

This week was National Travel Advisors Week. It also, coincidentally, was Teacher Appreciation, Nurse Appreciation, and Military Spouse Appreciation this week.

That’s a whole lot of rock star people to be rolled up together. I’m incredibly blessed to call myself two of these categories, and I know several more that wear one or more of these hats. What a week full of of heroes!

Frankly, it feels like a weird time to be a travel advisor. I just processed and unraveled my last cancellation for 2020, taking what started this year as taking off and a finally full business load to nothing feels, well to be honest, it sucks. It sucks for me and it really sucks for my travelers.

I still have a few in a holding pattern, and frankly that’s where I’m having them stay until we know more. In a holding pattern. It protects them and their vacation dollars, and that’s why they hire me in the first place. To take care of them. And I’m so incredibly honored and happy to do so.

But I would be lying if I said that I hadn’t shed a few tears over all of this. And felt a little frustrated.

And at the end of the day I keep coming back to the same question – when is it ok to talk about travel again?

IMG_0191It feels like bordering on insensitive and tacky to encourage people to wander wish and plan their future travels. But at the end of the day isn’t that what travel all about?

  • The joy of looking forward to something.
  • Hope for the future.
  • Excitement for new experiences.
  • The serendipity of small moments with the ones you love.
  • And the chance to unplug and reset the way you deserve.

So why wouldn’t you want to talk about those things in the middle of a pandemic? Why wouldn’t you want to hope and dream and feel excitement and appreciation for those serendipitous moments? And lord knows, after all of this we are desperately going to need to unplug.

So I’m going to start wander wishing again. And not tip toe around it quite as much.

Proceed with caution – yes.

Keep dreaming – hell yes!

I hope you’ll join me.

Until next time, happy wanderlusting and Happy Mother’s Day!

XO Krystal
